MATEIMONIAL AGENCIES.
Matrimonial agencies, at which it is announced that wives will be provided and the marriage ceremony performed at fees ranging from 10s 6d upwards, are a feature of the Australian capitals. In the New > South Wales Assembly the other night questions were asked , respecting, two of these, and the replies were somewhat surprising. " Weldon's Matrimonial Agency" and "The Minister's Study " were the two referred to, and a Mr Bigg wished to know how many marriages had been solemnised and registered through Weldon's Agency during the twelve months ended June 30 last, what was. '* the total number of denomi- , nation," and what were the names of the elergymen-' who : celebrated the marriages... The . Colonial Secretary (Mr Bruriker): replied that the marriages celebrated at the agency numbered 464, but there was nothing to show the number in each denomination. The Eev W. T. Adams, Methodist Episcopal, appeared to have been the clergyman who performed the ceremony in each instance. With reference to "The Minister's Study," Mr Brunken said that "ninety-four marriages had been celeberated there during the period named by Alfred James Clarke, Baptist minister, and 110 by Lorenzo Howard, Independent Baptist minister."
