Mr W. F. Mitford, who has occupied the position of shipping master at H.M.S. Customs in Lyttelton for many years, until a few weeks ago, when he was temporarily relieved to go to the Christchurch office, has received instructions to proceed to Auckland to take up the shipping work there. Mr Mitford's many friends will regret to hear of his removal from the port, where he has been associated for so long. Mr Herd succeeds Mr Mitford at Lyttelton. The barque Chanarel took advantage of a light wind from the westward yesterday and put to sea. She i 3 bound for Natal and takes a full cargo of produce loaded by Mr G. G. Stead.
