Mr Gillies has asked to be relieved of the Agent-Generalship at the end of the year. BANK OF VICTORIA. The Bank of Victoria has given notice to release another 10 per cent of the deferred deposits in December. This completes the release of 30 per cent, including: all deposits due in 1898. THE LOTTERY BILL. . : .'.'■•■ HOBART, Sept. 7. The Premier proposed amendments Ito the Lottery Bill, that in all transactions 1 in lotteries for personal gain, the books and papers of the lotteries should be subject to inspection by an officer appointed by tho Governor-in-Council ; that lotteries should be subject to a license f6e, and that no ticket be sold to persons under, twenty-one' years. The amendments wore negatived by 16 to 14. An amendment that nothing in the Act should apply to a lottery , authorised by any previous Act, and . conducted solely by postal correspondence, was adopted. A clause exempting lotterijes for works of art, or pure charity or philanthropy, subject to the approval of the Attorney General, was : carried by 'the casting vote of the Chairman.
