VOLUNTEER RANGE ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Range Committee of the associated rifle corps was held on Monday evening, Captain Creswell presiding. It was decided that there should be two rounds of matches for the Challenge Shield, the first round at 200, 500 and 600 yds, and the second at 300, 500 and 700 yds, any position. The opening match will take place on Sept. 26, each corps to be represented by ten men, the conditions to be seven shots and one sighter. The first round will commence on Oct. 24, for which date the draw is as follows : — City Guards v. Engineers, City Rifles v. E Battery, Mounted Rifles v. College Rifles. Two Saturdays during the season were allotted to each corps on which to fire their private matches. The following are the matches and dates for the "season: — {l) City Guards v. Engineers, City Rifles v. E Battery, Mounted Rifles v. College Rifles ; (2) City Rifles v. Engineers, City Guards v. Mounted Rifles, College Rifles v. E Battery; (3) City.Kifles v. City Guards, College Rifles v. Engineers, Mounted Rifles v. E Battery; (4) City Rifles v. College Rifles, Mounted Rifles v. Engineers, E Battery v. City Guards; (5) College Rifles v. City Guards, Mounted Rifles v. City Rifles, E Battery v. Engineers. The matches of the first round will take place on Oct. 24, Nov. 7 and 28, Dec. 12 and 19. The matches of the second round will be fired on Jan. 30, Feb. 13 and 27 and March 13 and 27, 1897. The following are the days allotted to each corps for firing off private matches: — E Battery, Oct. 3, 1896, and Dec. 5, 1896 ; Engineers, Oct. 10, 1896, and Jan. 23, 1897 ; Mounted Rifles, Oct. 17, 1896, and Jan. 9, 1897 • College Rifles, Nov. 14, 1896, and Feb. 20,1897; City Guards, Oct. 31, 1896, and Feb. 6, 1897; City Rifles, Nov. 21, 1596, and March 6, 1897,
