BROCKLEY COAL COMPANY.
A meeting was held last night at the shop of Mr G. Andrews, pork butcher, for the purpose of confirming the formation of a company to purchase from the liquidator of the Brockley Cooperative Coal-mining Company the rights, titles and interests in the said Company, and to work the mine and other properties of the Company. There was an attendance of about a dozen persons, and Mr J. R. Brunt presided. A motion forming' a company with a capital of .£3OOO, in 300 shares of .£lO each, was confirmed, as were motions appointing Messrs F. Anderson, D. H. Brown, J. R. Brunt, W. Congreve, R. W. England, G. Andrews and W. Woods provisional directors; the National Bank, bankers; Messrs Maude and Harman, solictors; and Mr G. W. Staniland secretary pro tern. The Chairman read a report on the property by Mr Oakley Archer, mining engineer, "who considered that there was a valuable asset in the tramway, and stated that the anthracite seam was well marked, and that the black seam would nearly follow it. These seams had been traced for three-quarters of a mile. He recommended that the seam should be trenched for on the hill, and an inclined shaft sunk on the seam itself ; the coal obtained in sinking would nearly pay for the labour, and the sinking would provide the necessary escapes and ventilation. A draft prospectus was considered and slightly amended, and it was decided to issue it to the public. The meeting adjourned for a week.
