THE LICENSING LAW.

PROHIBITED PERSONS. [Per Pbbss Association.! INVERCARGILL, August 29. Two prohibited persons were fined £6 each for being on licensed premises. Thomas Whittaker, the licensee, was charged with supplying a prohibited person. He said he did not know that the man was prohibited. The magistrate, Mr Poynton, dismissed the case, remarking that before he would convict it must be shown that the licensee knew the person to be prohibited. Sergeant M'Donnell said if that was so, the law could not be enforced.
