BARK FOR TANNING.
With a view to testing the value of the English market for the export of tanning bark, Mr Charles R. Valentine, formerly chief dairy expert to the New Zealand Government, but now of the Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company of England, and who is on a flying visit to the colony, is arranging for the exportation of a ton of birch bark from the west coast of the South Island. The article will be taken to Wellington, then concentrated and shipped Home. Mr Valentine expresses himself confident that there is a large opening for the trade.
