ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday; present — Messrs A. Carrick (chairman), A. Scott, H. N. Nalder, W. Izard, G. 3. Eitchie, E. D. Harman, L. E. Clark, H. A. Bruce (secretary), and Dr Moorhouse. A circular was read from the Colonial Secretary enclosing the new fishing regulations. The society now had power to sell trout caught in Lake Ellesmere. The Council decided that it could not recommend that hares should no longer be protected in the Mandeville and Eangiora districts. A letter was read from MrW. H. Spackman, thanking the Council for electing him a life member of the society, and enclosing a cheque for JEIS for the pheasantry in the Gardens. The "Waimate Society wrote asking if the Canterbury Society had any quail to dispose of.. The Secretary said he had written to the Nelson Society, which could not J supply any quail, aa it had to send to California for a fresh suppljy.TJbe. Waftaki and Waimate SooietieTwrote stating that they had passed a resolution recommending that the fishing license should be reduced to 10s, and wished the opinion of other societies on the subject. It was decided that the Canterbury Society could not see its way to recommend any alteration in the license fee. A letter from Mr H. Brown, Loburn, asking if the society had any trout for sale, was referred to the Garden Committee.
