THE TEMPLE OF TRUTH.

«, SOLD FOR .£2200. Considerable interest was taken in the. sale by auction of the Temple of Truth, which took place this afternoon, and over 200 persons were packed in Messrs Ayers, Beauchamp and Co.'s land saleroom, including a large number of Students and ex -Students, representatives of Our Father's Church and the Christchurch Musical Societies. A legal gentleman was also in attendance, representing a largo debenture - holder, . with instructions to oppose the sale if the property did not reach a certain sum ; but as no opposition was offered it must be presumed that a figure satisfactory to this particular debenture holder was reached. Mr Ayers officiated, andread the conditions. These were objected to, on technical grounds, by Mr F. R. Woodhouse, but the auctioneer undertook to vary them to suit the ease. The building known as the Temple, together with the dwelling-house of twelve rooms attached, and the four-roomed cottage standing on the same ground were then submitted, the organ and chairs in the Temple not being included, The bidding started at .£IOOO, and quickly ran up by .£IOO bids, made by Messrs Duggan and Mr E. W. Roper to .£2200, at which price it was knocked down to the former. The building and land originally cost ,£6500, and its sale at .£2200 isi estimated to leave about .£IOOO to be divided amongst tho debenture holders, which will, probably, allow of them receiving about 5s in the £, on^the amount lnvfiß^pfl Iw ■fcliivm
