WELLINGTON NEWS.

[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 4. Several burglaries have been committed recently, the latest victims being Messrs Wahren and Staub, tobacconists and hairdressers, who had stolen from their premises tobacco and cigars valued at about .£SO. As the theft was from new stock only purchased yesterday it is suggested that the thieves knew the run of the shop. Kecently , a prospector named K. H. Eliotte forwarded to the Thames School of Mines a quantity of quartz broken from a reef on the Tararua Eanges, for assay, and has received the following report: — "The assay value of bags of quartz is practically nil. The stone is too poor to treat further."
