Obituary. — On Saturday morning Mr John Ruddenklau succumbed to a long illness, and passed peacefully away. He left his native* land, Germany, in early life, and for a time engaged in the baking business in London. Returning to Germany, he sailed for New Zealand in the ship Joseph Fletcher, which arrived in Lyttelton in October, 185G. He settled in th,e Rangiora district, and in 1865 took up a fifty-acre section at Cust, whore lie lived for thirty-one years. The deceased gentleman took an active interest in local matters, and at different times occupied a seat on the Road Board, Literary Institute and School Committee. As a result. of industry and application he became a most successful farmer, and added largely to his property. Ho was widely respected in the district as a man of probity and henour. Ho leaves': a wife with two daughters and four sons to moiu'n his death. His remains were interred in the Cust cemetery on Tuesday in the presence of a large number of friends, the : funeral service being conducted Ijy the Eev D. D. Rodger,
