THE LATE MR D. LARNACH.
Mr Donald Larnach, whose death was announced in the cablegrams in- Friday's issue, was, says the Otago Dailg Times, a distinguished member of the Anglocolonial community residing in London. He arrived in Sydney when a young man, in the latter end of the twenties, and was entrusted with the charge of the station properties of his brother (who was father of the Hon W. J; M. Larnach, M.H.R.), being subsequently his* Sydney representative. After his marriage with an heiress, the daughter of Mr Walker, of Sydney, he went into business on his own account and was extremely successful. He Vas one of : the founders of the Bank of' New South Wales, was early.in the history of that institution made a director; -and in rapid succession became chaii-man of directors and president. When a branch of the institution was opened in London he became chairman of the London Board, and retained that post up to his death. He was also largely interested in and held seats on ithe Boards of more than one London financial notably the London and Westminster Joint Stock Bank. His counsel on financial matters, especially in connection with the raising of . colonial loans, was largely' sought by colonial Governments, and even by Imperial officials. He amassed a' great amount of wealth — so much so that it has been estimated that the value of his estate -will exceed .£3,000,000.
