AUSTRALIANS v. ESSEX.
[Per Press Association.] LONDON, Mat 15. The cricket match, Essex v. Australians, •was resumed to-ciay. . The weather was fine, but there was only a moderate attendance of the public. The wicket was rather lively. The Australians, with four wickets down, for 78, continued their first innings, and were all disposed of for 223. Hill played a splendid innings for 73 before he was bowled by Head. The other chief scorers were Gregory, bowled by Kortright, 34, and Kelly, bowled by Pickett, 29. "*3ssex then began their second innings, and when stumps were drawn for the day, had lost five wickets for 109, which was an advance of four at a similarlstage of their first essay. ' Carpenter had knocked up 51 before he was caught by Giffen, and Perriri had 20 to his credit, when Trumble beat, him. ■'.'■•• The Marylebone Cricket Club has engaged Harry, the Victorian cricketer. Mat 16. There was a moderate attendance of the public at the cricket match to-day, and the weather was fine. Owing to the fine bowling of Trumble, the Home team were all dismissed for a total of 149. Tlfe other chief scorers were : — Lucas caught Jones bowled Trumble 16, Bull caught Donnan bowled Trumble^O. This left the Australians 93 to obtain a win, which were made with the loss of three wickets, the highest scorers being- Giffen bowled Kortright 19, Iredale not out 43, Trott not out 20.
