INTERPROVINCIAL.
■•■■.• ■■■■■•. SECOND DAT. Miserable weather .was again the rule on •Saturday, and what promised to be a most interesting day's tennis was almost completely spoilt. The matches that were played Ibefore the luncheon adjournment were the <only ones in which the conditions were anything like normal. Six matches— -all of them singles— were got off in the Canterbury — Wellington contest, and so far the result leaves the local men with a lead of twenty games. In the Canterbury— Otago contest six singles and two doubles were completed, the southerners being at present in a minority of forty-three. The surprise •of the day' was the defeat of the Canterbury pair, Wilding and Hannan, ,by Borrowß and Dalziel. The result was due in great measure to Borrows' activity at the net, while his partner also ; played a sound game. Parker, the New ■ Zealand champion, came out in the singles, - T)Ut his match against Cox had to be dis- . .continued" owing to heavy rain. Parker, ■who seemed not to like the heavy ball, has - nevertheless seven games, to the good, and ■'•'••• should win easily, although Cox, for a ;■• '■ young player, made a very creditable show against Ms opponent. 'The games between E. Gore and Wilding and Collins and H. Oorewere also productive of good tennis. Afternoon tea was kindly provided by the Misses Nedwill, daughters of the president . -of the club. .The tournament will be concluded to-day, when a start will be made at 9 a.m. Scores:— ■ • • .
