Dkuids' Gala. — Entries for the cash bicycle races at the Wellington Druids' annual gala and fete, which takes place on Easter Monday, close with Mr H. D.Eayner at 9 p.m. to-morrow. The executive of the Auckland branch of the Navy League wrote to Admiral Bridge, commander of the Australian squadron, several days ago, requesting Mm to grant an interview to a deputation from the League in order to discuss matters affecting the British Navy, the acquiring of a naval training ship for New Zealand and kindred subjects. A reply has been received by the Secretary to the League from the Admiral, stating that he regretted he could not receive a deputation, and adding that any communications which they desired to make to him on naval questions must come through the medium of the Governor of the colony. At the hearing in London of the charge against the five defendants in connection with the World's Great Marriage Association, a working house-painter, aged sixtyfive, gave evidence of having paid a fee of £7 12s to the Association on their promise to find him a wife with .£SOO a year. He said he was given the names of about fifty ladies, but only one of them had any | money.
