The manufacturers have there-; fore, in accordance with their letter dated Dunedin, Feb. 10, 1896, withdrawn their new proposed statement, and will continue to observe, the rules; conditions and prices ruling at present. The/following letter has been received by the Bootmakers' Federal Council : — "Christchurch, March 3, 1896. To Mr H. MilliganJ Secretary New Zealand Federated Boot Trade Council, Christchurch. Dear Sir,— Since forwarding you letter dated at Dunedin March 2, I have received word that an industrial dispute has been lodged in Dunedin by the Dunedin Bootmakers' TTnion, and have, therefore, now to inform- you that all other members of our Association have given notice to the Court, making themselves parties to the dispute. I have also to inform you that our proposed new statement, being a conditional statement (as per our letter dated Feb. 10, 1896) is now withdrawn, and that, in order to avoiH any strike or lockout, all members of our Association will continue to work under rules, conditions and prices contained in old statement, signed by Messrs Thomson and Eeece. Should, however, the Board of Conciliation fail to agree, and the dispute is . not . carried, to the Arbitration Court within a reasonable time, then we reserve to ourselves the right to introduce, a new statement j but in any Case, proper notice would be given you, with ample tinie to consider it.— Tours faithfully I ,' Jas: A.
