FOOTBALL.

— MEEIVALE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Merivale Football Club was held last evening, at the club rooms, Morten's Buildings. Mr A. E. White, captain, occupied the chair, and there -was a good attendance of members. The committee reported that although the first fifteen did not occupy premier position, they had played some really good games. The club's reprepresentatives in interprovincial teams had been Messrs White, Cook, Fraser, Soffe and Johnstone; Mr White captaining the representative teams against Wellington, Auckland, Wairarapa and South Canterbury. There were 125 members on the club's roll. Matches had been arranged for both first and second fifteens against the Alhambra Club of . Dunedin. The balance-sheet showed that the receipts had been .-861 4s 9d and the expenditure .£55 8s 9d, leaving a credit balance of .£s l6s. The assets were .£32 2s 6d and liabilities nil. The report and balance-sheet were adopted and twenty-seven new members were elected. The election of omcers resulted as follows : — President, Mr A. E. G-. Ehodes ; "vice-presidents, Messrs I. Gibbs, J. M'Namara, E. C. Ashby, J. Thornton, H. D. Carter, J. C. Adams, J. T. M. Hayhurst, W. J. Alpe and Drs Thomas and Palmer ; captain, Mr A. E. White ; deputycaptain, Mr P. Menzies ; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr R. W. Barry; committee, Messrs A. Hooper, H. Gunthorp, G. Tovey and C. Menzies, with the officers ; selection committee, the captains of the teams and Messrs D. Fraser and H. Lawrence ; delegates to Canterbury Eugby Union, Messrs A. Hooper, F. T. Evans, W. G.' Garrard and C. Menzies. It was decided tp open the season on March 14. Messrs W. Pearce and F. Leach were appointed to coach the second and third fifteens. Mr Pearce offered a medal for the best forward in the second fifteen, and Mr Eastrick one for the best forward in the third fifteen. Votes of thanks were accorded to Messrs W- Gv Garrard and W. Hiddlestone for their services to the club, to the retiring officers, and to the chairman.
