MOUNTED RIFLES.

The annual meeting of the members of the Canterbury Mounted Eifles was held in their orderly-room last evening. There was a large attendance, and Captain Snow ' -cenpied tbe chair. ' The captain's annual report congratu- -.., lated r members on the large number who ;' had'earned capitation during the year, the amount to' the credit of the. corps being .£l9O. A number of recruits liad joined during the early part of the year, and the country contingent was working satisfactorily, thirty-six in all attending the Easter encampment. The Morris-tube practice had been satisfactory, Lance-Corporal Bailey winning the trophy given by the captain. The aiming and position drills had been done very fairly, and he hoped that a private camp" would be held this year. There had been a fair attendance at the annual inspection. He regretted that the matches with the associated corps had not been better attended. The report concluded by urging members to take more interest in their drill and attend regularly. The balance-sheet showed , a credit balance of __93 10s 7d. The various committees, including a Eecruiting Committee, for the ensuing year were elected. The captain stated that the new MartiniHenry carbines had arrived, and would be issued shortly. At the conclusion of the business the healths of Captains Snow, Major Slater and Surgeon-Captain Irving were honoured. Ex-Captain Palairet was elected a lifemember of the corps, and the proceedings closed.
