THE FUNERALS.

The funerals of the late Messrs W. F. Warner and James Murray took place to-day, starting from the New Brighton Hotel, t About one o'clock a large crowd assembled outside the hotel, and shortly after half-past one, when the procession left, practically the whole of the New Brighton residents had turned out. to witness the funerals. The followers of both funerals formed one procession as they passed ■ through the township, and beaides the two hearses, four mourning coaches and a drag, there were about forty other conveyances taking part. ' At the Mile-end Road the two f unerals separated, that of Mr Warner's passing along the Mile-erid Road, alongside the river, to the Commercial Hotel via the East Belt and Worcester Street. That .of Mr Murray went direcb to the Linwood Cemetery, where the body was interred in the Catholic portion of the cemetery, Father Marnane officiating. Messrs E. Wells, A..M'lntyre, J. Malcolmson and " W. Irvine were pallbearers, and Messrs S. Hardy, J. Marshall, T. Thomas, W. Evans, A. Thomas, H. Manning, representing the Now Brighton Sailing and Fishing Clubs, ■ carried the coffin to the grave. The procession which continued with the funeral of Mr Warner was largely ai}gmented as it neared the town, and numbered about forty carriages when it reached the hotel a few minutes after three o'clock. The square at that time was crowded with people, and a large number of shops were .. closed. From the hotel the procession passed on to Riccarton •Cemetery, ■'■ where the burial, service was conducted by the Rev W; A. Pascoe.
