PRESENTATION AT RANGIORA.

Last evening a meeting of memhers of the Rangiora Friendly Societies was held at the Good Templar Hall, for the purpose of presenting Dr G . S. Clayton, with a farewell address. The attendance, though affected by the heavy rain, was a representative one. Mr T. Keir, Mayor, and chairman of the Societies' Medical Committee, presided, and made the presentation. In referring to the, object of the meeting, the Chairman remarked that for nearly eleven years Dr Clayton had served the societies faithfully and well in the capacity of medical officer, and the skill and kindness he had shown in dealing with many serious cases was beyond aU praise. His removal to Christchurch was the cause for a genuine feeling of regret; amongst the large majority of the members. The address he had to present was as follows:— "To Dr Geoffrey S. Clayton, — Sir, — On behalf of the Loyal Bangiora Lodge of Oddfellows, the Eesolution Division of the Sons ahd Daughters of Temperance, and the Bud of Hope Lodge of Druids, we have to convey to you an expression of the sincere regret felt at the the receipt of your resignation as medical officer for the societies named, owing to your intention to remove from the town. During your connection with the JLodges, extending over a period of ten and a half years, your skill and kindness so frequently manifested won the . esteem and gratitude of the members, and they now heartily join in wishing you happiness and prosperity in your new sphere of wherever your future lot may be cast. Signed— LO.O.F., M.U., J. E. Carey, N.G., J. Marshall P.S. ; S.D.T., F. B. Lane W.P., J. B. Wilson E.S. ; U.A.0.D., A. E. Mathews A.D., J. J. Wilson, secretary. Rangiora, Feb. 28, 1896." Dr Clayton suitably acknowledged the presentation, and Mr Hugh Boyd having said & few word 3 expressive of regret at Dr Clayton's departure, and good wishes for his future, the proceedings terminated.
