Dbunkenness.-t- A first offender waa fined ss, in default twenty-f our hours' imprisonment.—Elizabeth Forrans was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Pbqhibition Obdeb. — On the application of his sister, a prohibition order was issued against a man, to apply to Christchurch and -surrounding districts. Alleged Labbikinism.— George Ingram was brought up (on remand) charged with having, on Thursday evening, " behaved in a disorderly manner, and with having assaulted' Constable Tonkin and damaged his shako to the extent of 17s 6d. The case had been adjourned from the previous day in order to enable the accused to call two witnesses. Duncan Cameron, a wire worker, deposed that on Thursday evening he saw the accused talking to a man on the Victoria Street Bridge. Constable Tonkin went up to Ingram and said, " What the d 1 are you doing here, Ingram ?" and then struck him in the face. Ingram put up his arm to defend himself, and the constable then began to ill-treat him. Cross-examiued by Sergeant-Major Mason: The witness said he belonged to Sydenham, and used to go to school with accused. The Constable did not tell Ingram he was going to arrest him. Witness did not follow the constable afterwards, nor did he see any stones thrown. Sergeant-Major Mason said that the police had made a search for the man Ilunt, the other witness the accused wished to call, and, so far, liad been unable to find any trace of him. His Worship said he would like to havo the matter thoroughly threshed out. Ho would adjourn the case till 3 p.m. on Monday, to enable further inquiries to be made for this other witness. The accused was admitted to bail in 6ne surety of .£25.
