NATIONAL ASSOCIATION.
A -general meeting of members of the National Association was held at Morten's 'Buildings last evening. About seventy members/ including a number of ladies, ■were present, and Mr W. Jacques occupied the chair. The reports of the Council was read an<l adopted, after which Mr C. Lewis, M.H.R., briefly addressed the meeting. JkTr Jacques < explained that his [position as chairman that evening was due to the fact that he had been elected by the Council as president ; in place of Mr Swarm, lately resigned. On the motion of Mr Capper a vote Of thanks was unanimously accorded to 'the retiring President, and it was resolved to place onTecord'themem'bers' recognition of his -valuable services. Mr Swarm briefly replied, and referred to the early .struggles of the Association ■! iiriog his presideEoy, and ito the result of . its '' Efforts. 'Several notices of motion were-given, after which the Chairman introduced Mr T. Mackenzie, member for <Jlutha, to the meeting. Mr Mackenzie said that the recent by-election was reJ garded by v outsiders' as avictory not only 'for Christchurch but for New Zealand. A unanimous vote of thanks was accorded Mr Mackenzie for his visit and address, and the-Tneeting terminated with the usual rote of thanks to the Chairman.
