The match between New South Wales and South Australia, which begins to-day, is creating • special interest, owing to the fact that it will decide the holders of the Sheffield shield for the season. The weather is fine, and the wicket; is in good order. On Thursday afternoon, the Rangiora and Kaiapoi Clubs met at the Rangiora Domain. The home team won by 45 runs, the scores being : — Rangiora 89, of which Brown made 31, F. Gulliver 19 and J. Payne 20 ; Kaiapoi 44, Brightling 16 and D. Brown 11 being the highest scorers. In the bowling Balch for Kaiapoi and Gulliver and Reynolds for the winners did best.
