AN AWFUL EXPEEIENCE. [Special to Press Association.] SYDNEY. Feb. 27. A miner named Martell had a sensational experience at Bomballa. He was walking through -a .-tunnel, when the earth collapsed and completely buried him. Fortunately a crack in the earth admitted air, and he managed with his .pocket-knife to clear, the dirt from his mouth,. sufficiently to allow him to .breathe- He' was penned in this position for twenty-six hours, and his sufferings were so great that he several times unsuccessfully attempted to cut his throat with his pocket-knife. His two' son's, who were searching for their father, walked on to the heap of earth, and he managed to attract their attention. An old man named John Buddie was killed by a fall of earth on Monday last while digging gum near Eiverhead. Yesterday another accident occurred at Eiverhead^ by which a firherman named John Davi3 was drowned in the river. WELLINGTON, Feb. 27. An inquest will be held to-morrow on a young woman named Amelia Agnes Hutchison, aged 21, who died suddenly yesterday under peculiar circumstances. Yesterday afternoon, an inquest was held at the house of Mr William Aquilla Barnett, Kaiapoi, into the cause of the death of his infant son. Mr J. L. Wilson was coroner, and Mr Ben Whitta was foreman. After hearing the evidence of several witnesses, the jury returned a verdict of death from natural causes.
