KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual meeting of the above Council was held last evening ; present— the Mayor and Councillors Weston, Mathews, Hopkins, Clark, Bugg, Drabble, Simpson and Blakely. Leave of absence, was granted to Councillor Doubleday. Correspondence was read relative to routine matters. The Finance Committee reported receipts for the fortnight to be .£36 3s 6d ; debit at bank, -6540 9s, and recommended accounts, _332 ls 7d for payment. Adopted. Councillor Clark referred to the heavy item in the accounts for naphtha, and moved that the Liehting Committee prepare an estimate of the cost of lighting both by naphtha and kerosene. This was agreed to, and it was also resolved that the caretaker be instructed to light the four additional lamps. The Council then sat as the Board of Health. A letter was received from the medical officer stating that there was one case of typhoid fever in the _oiough. A discussion ensued upon the question of the sanitary state of the town, and it was unanimously resolved to appoint Mr W. B. Humphreys as inspector. The meeting then closed.
