The Survey Department is preparing plans for the disposal of some forty-six thousand acres in the Oroua, Eangitikei, Wanganui, Pahiatua and Waixarapa North counties. The recent bath agitation has been accentuated by . the capture of a shark, nearly ten feet long, off the Thorndon esplanade, which is the site of one of the proposed baths. Another shark, measuring eleven feet, was caught on the opposite site of the harbour. The Cabinet has passed a vote of thanks to Sir E. Stout for his gratuitous services in the Midland Railway Arbitration, and also to Messrs Blow, Gordon, Mackay and Mueller, whose exertions will be rewarded by extra payment. Mr Wilson, resident engineer, has left for Nelson to begin laying out the Belerove section of the railway. OAMAEU, Feb. 24. Major Sommerville arrived on Saturday to take charge of the Eifle Association meeting. On the question of ammunition he states that a fresh lot has been made and carefully tested, is now on its way down, and is guaranteed good. All arrangements have now been made, the necessary money is in hand, and the accommodation is provided for. Lieutenant Clark, a visiting Victorian who intends to shoot, expresses himself highly delighted with the range.
