♦ — . — _ Cheviot.— An Assessment Court for the Cpunty of Cheviot will be held at the County Council Office on Feb. 26, at 4.30 p.m., by Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M. Ram and Ewb Faib.— Entries for the annual ram and ewe fair under the auspices of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral' Association, which takes place on March 12 and 13, close on March 2. Garden Paett.— At the Kaiapoi, Church of England garden party and sale of work held on Thursday, the gross amount taken was .£64 7s Id. The cash taken as entrance fees at the gate was .£9 4s 4d. oSigh Diving.— Professor Peart, of Fitzgerald's circus company, while the circus was at Tjmaru, gave an exhibition dive in the harbour, in aid of the hospital convalescent fund. He dived from the maintopgallant yard of the barque . Auriga; a distance, of about one hundred feet. The feat; a pretty one, was witnessed by a considerable crowd, and a collection in aid of the fund realised .£7 6b. Bowling. — A match was played at Waimate on Thursday afternoon between a team from' Oamaru and the local club. The game resulted in a win for the Waimate Club by nineteen points. At the conclusion of the match the visitors were hospitably entertained by the members of the local club. .Aquatic. — The annual competition by the boys attending the Kaiapoi Borough school for the medal given by the Australasian Royal Humane Society took place at Lock^s point on Friday afternoon. There were three competitions for the medal. The -first test consisted in swimming out and bringing to the shore a dummy floating at a certain distance ; the second in swimming out, diving and bringing to shore a sunken dummy, the place being indicated on the surface ; and the third. in swimming out, diving, and bringing j» shore a sunken dummy, the whereabouts not being indicated. The winner proved to be William Taylor, with Lewis Eevell secondhand James Simpson third. There was also a competition for senior boys, distance about fifty yards, which resulted as, follows :— A. M'Dougall 1, L. Revell 2, 3. A. Swimming Race; half-way across the .river, for junior boys, was won by Crosbie Legg. A large number, of spectators were present.
