No. 8 BAND.— OAMARU GARRISON BAND.

(Conductor: Mb &. Jones.) -.-.':. Opening: Attack faii^ but band not smai't, bars 4 and .6- stiff, soprano over blowing, p and/ not attended to. Mar r cato : Band not balanced arid want of precision. Con fuoco : Top of band slovenly, bass solo' tone not kept out .on dotted crotchets, articulation generally faulty, cadenza good. Andante: Accompaniments too loud, basses not together, trombone going well, from Agitato band better in tune, trombone slightly overblowing, cadenza <, very good, tempo going well, soprano good ; at bar 25 basses not together and play last quaver of each group too short, top of band not balanced, cadenza tone good, but style rather stiff, expression marks overdone from E. Allegro : Precision faulty and tone not compact, staccato bars . not neat enough* improves from bar 31, shot notes good, cadenza also good, tempo accompaniment still too loud, cornet very fair. Animato: Wants more dash, soprano going well, crescendo not gradually worked up, last i three bars might be smarter, cadenza fairly j good. Andante: Accompaniment fairly well together, but dotted quavers played as j quavers, euphonium going very nicely, bars J 4 and 5 nicely managed, crotchets in bar i 20 too short, not nicely together from bar | 21, cadenza very well managed, Allegro •. ; Precision fair but not together rit bar, tempo going very well; # crotchets from bar 20 not precise, better articulation, required from bai^3, band aciross .at bar 69,, -afterwards improves "wonderfully making a very good finish; Points )V. 70.
