Ararat has been known under this name for 3000 years, and an Armenian writer declares that an entire country wa« bo called after Arai the Fair, an ancient Avmeuian king, who lived about 1750 B.C. He fell in a bloody battle with the Babylonians, and the scene of his death was henceforth known as Arai- Arat, or the Fall of Arai. Josephus refers to the mountain as Naxuana, and declares that the remains of the Ark wore thore to be seen carefully preserved.
