Patrick Hamett, licensee of the Travellers Best Hotel, at Taita, was charged al the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court; witt having stolen a distress warrant directed against his own goods, which had! been issued from the Magistrate's Court al Wellington. It was alleged that Constable Cruiokshankß went tp put a man in possession of Harnetfs premises, and that while there the warrant mysteriously ■ disap. peared. Harnett swore that he never ea,w the warrant after it was shown to him by the constable, andthe magistrate dismissed the charge. The fourteen dayß' grace allowed for the payment of Income tax expires on Friday, after which 10 per cent additional will be demanded. . . r
