THE HIGHBANK ESTATE.
Our ABhburton correspondent writing or the Highbank Estate, recently acquired by the- Government under the Land for Settle* nients Act, says :— Great satisfaction is expressed by farmorS in this district who know the land at the action of the Government in purchasing the Highbank Estate, and there is no doubt that when the property is thrown open for selection there will be a large number of applicants for all that is offered. One practical man, who is thoroughly acquainted with the estate, declares that it is one of the bestpieces of sheep country on the plains. The land will-carry from four to five sheep to the acre all the year round. It will grow cereals, too, but as it is in the direct track of the nor.-westers, of which we have recently had such unpleasant experience, its future occupants will probably prefer to use it for grazing. For this purpose it is admirably adapted, and there can be no two honest opinions about the wisdom of the purchase.
