The following are mining quotations : —Big Eiver 19s 6d to 20s 6d, Buller Dredge 5s 3d to 5s 9d, Cocksparrow Dredge 2s 9d to 3s 3d, Cumberland 3s to 3s 6d, Exchange Is to Is 3d, Dillon lOd to Is .Id, Hercules 3s to 3s 6d, Keep-it-Dark 30s to 32s 6d, Golden Lead 6d to 9d, Inglewood 9d to Is, Lyell Creek Is to Is 3d, Lord Edward 2s 6d to 2s 9d, No. 2 South Dark 2s 3d to 3s 6d, Sir Charles Eussell Is to Is 3d, Success lOd to Is, United Alpine 8s to 8s 6d, Welcome United 3s 3d to 3s 6d. The following returns are reported: — Keep-it-Dark, 80oz of amalgam from 72 tons; Globe, 3750z of amalgam from 120 tons, cleanup; Cocksparrow Dredge, 48oz of amalgam for 103 hours. The Progress will make a refund of capital of Is 3d per share.
Canterbury Typographical Association. — The eighth annual meeting of the Canterbury Typographical Association was held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Foresters' Hall, Oxford Terrace. Mr W. A. Williams (president) occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. The report and balance-sheet submitted by the retiring Board were unanimously adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: — President, Mr E. E. Wright; vice-president, Mr D. Lumsden; secretary, Mr F. C. Gerard (re-elected); honorary treasurer, Mr A. G. W. Bradwell (re-elected) ; trustees, Messrs H. Kent andß. J. Paull (re-elected); Board members, Messrs F. M. Drewitt, W. Munday and F. Wilson; delegates to Trades and Labour Council, Messrs W. Cullen and D. Edmonds. It was resolved to take a ballot of the members of the Association for the purpose of nominating one of its number to serve on the Conciliation Board, under the j Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration i Act, 1894. Votes of thanks to the retiring officers brought the proceedings to a close. Sea birds outnumber the land birds, becaiise their food never fails, not because they are more prolific. The fuhnar-petrel lays but one egg, yet it is believed to be themost numerous bird in the world.
