SWIMMING.

The " juniors' afternoon " in connection with the East Christchurch Club attracted a large attendance to the baths on Saturday afternoon. Good handicapping resulted in some close finishes, all the competitors in the club race for boys \inder sixteen finishing on the touch amid great excitement. Forty-three boys entered for the various events, J. Watichop winning the principal event, A. Winter the School Handicap and H. Wauchop- the race for boys under thirteen. The following are results: — Junior Handicap, under sixteen (two lengths) — First heat: 0. Ormandy 19sec, 1 ; E. Tacon 9sec, 2. Time — 58sec. Second heat : J. Wauchop 4sec, 1 ; H. Williams Bsec, 2. Time — 43sec. Third heat : A. Joyce llsec, 1 ; E. Willis 9sec, 2. Time— 50sec. Final heat : J. Wauchop 4sec, 1 ; O. Ormandy 19sec, 2. Time — 45sec. Boys under thirteen (two lengths) — H. Waiichop 2sec, 1 ; V. Drake scr and F. Drake 2sec (dead heat), 2. School Eace, boys under fifteen (two lengths)— First heat : M. Wauchop ssec, 1 ; W. M'Dowell scr, 2. Time — 55sec. Second heat : A. Winter 3sec, 1 ; E. Stringer 6sec, 2. Time — 48sec. Third heat : M. M'Dowell 3sec, 1 ; C. Simpson scr, 2. Time — 49sec. Fourth heat: C. Aynsley lOsec, 1 ; H. Blakely lsec, 2. Time— s6sec. Fifth heat: J. Gibb 12sec, 1 ; F. Scott 15sec, 2. Time — 57sec. Final heat: A. Winter 1, J. Gibb 2. M. M'Dowell, M. Wauchop and C. Aynsley also started. Time — 46sec. The presentation of prizes to the winners ended a most interesting afternoon's racing. The second of the series of races for Mr Moir's trophies, which was swum in the Southbrook baths on Thursday, resulted as follows :— First heat : W. J Hunter 1, B. Ellis 2, W. D. Bean also started. Second heat: C. Jones 1, C. Harper. 2. A. Ellis and A. Mulcock also started. Final: W. J. Hunter 1, C. Jones 2. The points for the trophies now stand: W. J. Hunter 6, C. Jones 6, A. Ellis 5, C. Harper 1. The final race will be swiun next Thursday evening.
