Large holders immediately advanced their demands to 4s Bd, and no business resulted. The market is .now unsettled. • The timber export trade is advancing apace. The ship Canada has commenced loading seven hundred thousand feet of local hard woods for London, chiefly wood' blocking, but also including a thousand sleepers for a leading English company. This is the third large shipment Messrs Scott and Co. have recently sent to Europe. Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their head office : — LONDON, Feb. 6. Hides — Market very dull; prime Queensland hides- 4d per lb, cows 3|d per lb; ordinary New South Wales hides are neglected. '
