The ordinary meeting of this Board was held'on Thursday, Jan. 9 ; present— Messrs E. B.Holdsworth (chairman), T. Hi Evans, D; Dick, J, Mathers and J. Banks. Accounts amounting to £141 19s .4d were passed for payment. The receipts' since last meeting, were reported ' to have ,been .45260 19s lid. Mr J. Eussell asked ti? have an, obstruction in a drain on the east side of the; North Koad removed. The Clerk | was instructed to inspect and report. Correspondence was read. — From the Ashley Eoad Board. regarding the proposed cbnstruotion of protective' workß- in the Ashley River-bed. The Clerk was instructed to reply that the Board declined ,to be a partyito the execution of any temporary work, or to accept any liability for damages that might arise therefrom ; but should the Ashley Boad Board bring forward any di-iluite scheme for permanently confining the river under 'the bridge, which might evenektend over ■ & term of years in completion, the Board would be prepared to consider it^ A petition was received, signed by Messrs ¥. Ashby, T. White and thirteen others, drawing attention to the/ bad state of the bridge and road known as 1 the Loburn-Eowai Eoad, and asking that steps should be taken to put the Board's portion of the road in repair. It was resolved that unless the Government first put the road in repair, the ( Board would accept no responsibility. It was resolved to purchase small birds' eggs at Id per dozen.
