A number of speakers, addressed the meetings in vigorous terms, and were attentively listened to. N6' resolutions were proposed. ' • Volley-Firing. — The Waiinate Eifle Corps went through their annual volley and independent firing on the Point Bush Eange on Tuesday morning. . The' first squad, under Lieutenant Coltmari, in the volley made, as figure of merit, 14*28; the second squad, under Captain Grant, 13'46 ; the gross points for the company being 13*85. In the independent firing the first squad made 20'78, and the second 17. Forestry. — The regular quarterly meeting of the Court Pride of Waiinate' was held,, on Monday night, Bro E. Inkster, C.E., : presiding. About thirty. members. of the, Lodge were present. The Woodwards reported, the Lodge clear of sickness. Sealy),' and Councillors Cuthbertson, Baker, Paul, Beid> Orr, Birdand Thomas. The Mayor's statement showed the, overdraft to be ■£1282 10s lid, and receipts since last meeting .£376 6s 6d. The Paymaster-General advised payment to credit of ithe Council of 75 per cent of subsidy. It was resolved, pn '.the, recommendation of the Eeserves "Committee, to cancel . Messrs P. and D. Duncan's lease on payment of «£lio, and not to let any more reserves for grazing^for more than seven years. The matter of calling a conference to fix the half , holiday for the year was' left in the hands of the Mayor. An auctioneer's license was granted to Mr D. Zander, and a transfer of license from Mr A. Harrison to Mr H; Stephenson. Glentunnel , School. — A meeting of the householders of the Glentunnel school, district was held' on Monday evening to elect a committee for the newly-formed district. Mr Barlow was voted to the chair. The following resolution was carried unanimously— " That this meeting is of opinion that the . Board of Education has treated the Glentunnel householders with great want of courtesy and fairness in proclaiming a new. district of such contracted area without consulting the School Committee, and that the Chairman be requested to . forward this resolution to the Board." The following gentlemen were elected the committee: — Messrs Barlow, Lamport, Thomson,^ Milne, Anstiss, C. Marsh and F. Smith. Mr Barlow was subsequently elected chairman. A meeting of the committeawas . held the same evening. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Opie arid the staff for the very satisfactory nature of the Inspector's report. The new committee met after the election and decided to nominate Mr E. P. Pole and Sir John Hall for seats on the Education Board. Failing the consent of either of these gentlemen, Mr Peryman will be asked to stand.
