WELLINGTON NEWS. [Per Pbesb Association.] • WELLINGTON, Jan. 14. The annual balance-sKeefc of the Equitable Building Society shows a credit balance of .£4969. A further dividend of 4 per cent has been declared, making 9 per cent for the year. The reserve fund Btands at <£17,000. Owing to continued dry weather the street lighting will be carried on by Bteam instead of water power. The difference in cost to the City Council will be that where they pay .£3 10s per annum per lamp they will pay while steam is used at the rate of .£6 per lamp. Tbadeß' Picnics.— A meeting of plumbers' and gasfitters was held- at the Foresters' Hall last evening, to make arrangements for carrying out their! annual picnic for 1896. Mr J. M. Taylor was voted to the chair. The following gentlemen were elected as a committed to carry out all necessary arrangements :— Messrs J. M. Taylor, Bradford, Hobbs, Billcliff, Cull, Dixie, Perks, Wooles, Eldridge, Ross, Large, Oakley, Harrison, and J. D. Colville. Mr C: W. Colville was appointed secretary.
