He. seems -to have appreciated very much this kind remem- . brance, ; and although unable to . eat . them himself, they were sent, on to friends, who highly enjoyed so unexpected a gift, and reported very favourably., of. them 4^s| a' table bird. Walter sent similar hampers of wood pigeons to Sir Eedvew Buller, Sir Robert Meade, and other Srif^fi}, and without exception they have written out highly extolling our pigeon, "With a body (to ijse the expression of one of them) as large as n grotise and of matchless flavour." . They were all picked birds sent to the freezing chamber during the miro season, and would therefore do credit to the colony^ i
