THE CHRISTCHURCH ELECTION.

A largely-attended meeting of lady supporters pf .Mr Lewis was held at. the central committee-rooms yesterday afternoon. Mr A. B. G-. Rhodes occupied the chair, and introduced Mr Lewis to the meeting. The candidate spoke on several subjects of special interest to women, including female franchise, women in Parliament, treatment of female . criminals, education, colonial finance and the influence women might be expected to exercise in politics. At the conclusion of Mr Lewis's remarks the following resolution was carried unanimously, on the motion of Miss Jacques, seconded by Mrs Morton — "That the ladies present at this meeting express confidence in Mr Lewis, and pledge themselves to use their best endeavours to secure his return." About forty ladies gave in their names, as members of a Ladies' Committee to work in Mr Lewis's interests. . • ■ ■ . A well-attended meeting of the friends and supporters of Mr T. E. Taylor was held, last evening in the Free Methodist Schoolroom, Richmond. Mr R. Kerr occupied the chair. Mr T. E. Taylor referred at length to many of the political questions of the day, and instanced cases where fresh legislation might be undertaken with advantage. Mr H. A. Atkinson moved — "That this meeting thanks Mr Taylor for his address, and pledges itself to secure his return as a member of the House of Representatives." Mr W. C. Shaw seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously; An active committee has been formed for the district.
