Flounders at Lake Ellesmeee. — Mr W. W. Collins, M.H.R., has received the following letter in reply to his communication relative to the flounder fishery at Lake Ellesmere: — "Marine Department, Wellington, Jan. 7, 1896. Sir, — I have to acknowledge the receipt from you, through the Colonial Secretary's Office, of Mr G. Tibbs's letter of Dec. 23, in which he states that small flounders taken in fishermen's nets at Lake Ellesmere are dead before they are returned to the water, and, in reply, to state that the constable at Leeston, who is an officer under the Sea Fisheries Act, 1894, has been instructed to report upon the matter, and to do his best to see that the law is not infringed. If MrTibbs can furnish evidence of any specific case in which the offence ho mentions has been committed, jjroceedings will be taken against the offender, — I n-m, &c, W, T. Secretary."
