A PLUCKY WOMAN.

At a late hour on Tuesday night (says the Timaru Herald) two lady residents of Wellington Street were startled by a man 1 attempting to enter the house by the front window. They called out to the man to bo off, but on his persisting, one of those inside, with more pluck than is usual with women generally, slipped out of the back door, and arming herself with a stout stick, went round to the front and administered such a drubbing to the would-be housebreaker, that he cried for mercy and took to his heels. It is a pity that the scoundrel was not recognised, so that he might be dealt with by the police, and a further lesson taiight him that would prevent him from frightening unprotected females in the future.
