ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

On Thursday morning, at 12.45, Constable Ryan, Akaroa, was informed that a man named Charles Webb had attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat in the Terawera Hall, Little River. His action had been witnessed by his mates, who took his sheath knife from him, but not before he had inflicted severe wo.unds on his throat, cutting the windpipe in two places. Constable Ryan found the man saturated with blood, and had him conveyed to the Akaro:i hospital. Webb is a single man, with no relations in the colony. He had left Christchurch on Monday to work at grass-seeding, and had been drinking heavily. He is expected to recover.
