AUCKLAND, Jan. 9.

A Maori woman, Hera Materie, broke out of the lock-up at Dargaville while attended by the constable's wife, he being absent on duty. She was captured at Kaikohe and sfentenced to a term in Auckland gaol.

It is stated that Captain Eussell, M.H.E. for Hawke's Bay, will visit Auckland early in February and deliver political addresses in the city and some of the outlying districts.

The Auckland Swimming Club's delegates to . the forthcoming swimming championship meeting at Sydney left by the Waihora. The full team consists of Messrs Albert, Goldwater, Bailey, "jHoey, Allen and Scott. Mr St Clair, secretary of the New y Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, accompanied the team. * ■
