Trent, J.P,) . Drunkenness. — A first .offender, a woman, was charged with this offence. The police stated that they found her mi a helpless condition. She had a child with her a few months old, and stated that she had intended to drown herself and child that morning, but had put it off until the afternoon. Her husband had gone up-country to work. The woman appeared to be very ill, and the Captain of the Salvation Army volunteered to take charge of her and her child, 'The Bench agreed to this. — Two other first offenders were each fined 5s and costs,

Breach of the By-laws.— Fpr riding bicycles on footpaths, Edward Goodchild, Eobert Young, Edward Derry, Thomas Torrens and Frank llf rey were each fined 10s and costs 7s. Several of the offenders pleaded as an excuse the present rough state of the roads.
