[Peb Pbess Association.]

WELLINGTON, Jan. 10.

The Minister of Eailways has decided te introduce a system of generated gas for lighting the express trains between Christchurch and Dunedin, and Dunedin and Invercargill. The plant is expected to arrive within twomonths, and will be erected at Dunedin. Each long carriage will be fitted with a cylinder reservoir, which will be charged with sufficient gas to last the return journey. Each lamp will have an illuminating power equal to fifteen candles, and three lamps will be placed in each carriage. The plant costs some thousands of pounds, but if the test is satisfactory similar plants will be erected at Auckland and Wellington.
