A thunderstorm, with vivid lightning and heavy- rain, passed over the city last night. Telegraphic communication with the South Island was considerably affected, and only urgent messages were being received this morning for that part of the colony until noon, when full communication was restored. There was a change of wind to the south this morning, and the weather is bright and clear. Another thunderstorm, accompanied by vivid lightning and very heavy rain, passed over the city shortly before ten o'clock tonight. NAPIEE, Jan. 9. Eeports from the country districts show that an electric, storm Of unusual severity Occurred oh Tuesday night, though it was but slightly experienced 'in Napier. At Ashley and CUnton the display of sheet lightning was exceptionally brilliant, and towards midnight the storm worked up northward, following the Buahine ranges, and when it broke rain came down in torrents, forked lightning liehtiner up the whole country.
