Explanations were made, by the Overseer, concerning the- riders attached to the verdicts of two juries on cases of drowning at 'fords in the county. Respecting; the case of a child" drowned in the Opihi in ' December, ' the jury had blamed the Council for making a misleading cutting into the river, where a deep gutter made a dangerous ford. The Overseer stated that the ford was a good one on Monday, when the cutting was made, but a flood had come down on Wednesday, the day of the accident. In regard to the Pareora case, the jury asked the Council to fence off 'a track leading to an old and nowdangerous ford, and it was agreed that this should be done, though the Council expressed doubts as to the necessity for it. As a measure of economy the Overseer was asked to undertake .the duties of Inspector of Slaughterhouses for a year. Tenders were accepted for various works. Accounts amounting to .£244 ls 9d were passed for payment. .
