THE FAUST FAMILY.
The London Bellringers and' FaustFamily opened a season of six nights at the Opera House yesterday evening. It is now six jears since the membera pf this combination last appeared in Christchurch, and the hearty welcome they received ' from the audience must nave' been very gratifying to them. The entertainment, itself was' one of the best given itt Christchurch : for [some time \paßt; and .seldqm^as -^.au^iencejbeeg so ptt6tb,nfrhly appieciatave . as .tteVjcaae l^t'ey^ning. t^Ti.i-i^nj;!^^ lenxiores1 enxiores were nuipßrous^aii^ the enfe-rtaiinmbiit met' mtti, the mO^t' -demon-, strative tokens of approval, a The £rramme opened with an overture by the '. Fausfs Sestette.Brassßand; -thonfollowed selections, by the London Bel-ringers, six in number. The pieces played were " Marseillaise," " Say Au Eevoir, but not Good-Bye" and "In Old Madrid," .The audience at once recognised the excellent manner in which tho pieces were rendered, and the performers were thrice recalled. In the second part the Bellringers played a number of popular melodies in pleasing style, eaChitem being redemanded. Master Freddy Faust was encored for hie song and dance, "Rustic Maiden," as was also Mr Eugene Faust. for his comic songs, which were exceedingly well given.. MiBS Lucy Fraser and Mr Martyn Hagari, two very capable and versatile burlesque artists, were very successful in an original character skfetch, Naming the Baby. The young lady showed herself the possessor of a very good voice, and Mr Hagan created roars of laughter alike by his powers of facial expression and his humorous sayings. Later in the evening Miss Fraser took part with; Mr Hagan in a veiy amusing drawing-room sketch, in whioh they introduced a number of novelties. Mr Hajgan's Irish songs and impersonations were well given, as were also Messrs Eugene and T. Faust's comic violin playing. Perhaps the best item on the programme was the " Eisley Act", by the Messrs E. andT. Faust, Miss Euby Faust and Master Fred Faust. The four performers accomplished some remarkable acrobatic feats, and theexhi- . bition, on the wholo, was one of the best ever • seen in Christchuroh. The ' other items included a performance with the bassoon and clarionet by the Messrs Faust, and a pantomimic farce entitled My Awful Boys. Mi 1 J. Somers played the accompaniments very well. The programme will be repeated this evening, and. should draw a crowded house. _
