WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.

The above Board held its monthly meeting in the Council Chamber, Kaiapoi, last evening ; present — Messrs Horrell (in the chair), Parnham, Wrighs, Doubleday, Mathews, Hopkins, Hiatt and the Mayor. Correspondence was read — From the Lands and Survey Department promising attention to the matter of foreshores. From the lessee of a section near the malthouse, offering to hand it over on payment of amount he had paid for it. It was decided to write to Mr E. W. Manning and inform him that if he prepared the deed and presented it to the Board, they would then sign it. The pilot's report stated that there was no change in the river, except near Askeaton, where a spit was forming, and he thought that the dredge would be of some benefit there. He had sounded the bar and found Bft 6in on a low ebb tide on Dec. 9. There had been for the month, inwards 250 tons, and outwards 162 tons. The report was adopted, and it was decided to try the effect of several charges of dynamite on the Spit when the men were removing the snags. The Finance Committeereported balance in bank J2Bl 14s lid, and recommended accounts to .£SB 15s for payment. Adopted. The Works Committee reported having visited the creek bridge, and decided that it would be better to have the work done by day labour at a cost of not more than £3 ; also advising the erection of a groin. near Sims' wharf . The report was adopted. The Chairman was authorised to sign the lease and affix the seal to the Milling Company's tender. Several other matters were dismissed, and the meeting terminated. Tuesday, October 29, was the centenary of the birth of Keats.
