CHRISTCHURCH CYCLING CLUB.

A general meeting of the Christchurch Cycling Club was held in the club-rooms, Cashel Street, last evening. About thirty members were present, and the captain, Mr Duff, occupied the chair.

Correspondence was read from 1 the Southbridge and the Kangiora Caledonian Societies with reference to holding events under the rules of the Union. These had been dealt with by the committee. The Sfew South Wales League of Wheelmen and the South Australian Cycling Association wrote, promising all possible assistance at the coming meeting of the Christchurch Club.

A letter was received, from Mr C. E. Wilson, ex-captain of the club, at present in Melbourne, asking permission of the New Zealand Cyclists' Union to bring over a team of cycling champions from Australia, and to hold, race meetings in different parts of thecolonyundertheauspices of the Union. Mr Wilson suggested holding a meeting in Christchurch in conjunction with the local club. His team would consist of A. W. Harris (professional champion of England), Martin (American mile champion), Porta (Italian champion), and A. J. Pifcher. The letter also contained the information that Zimmerman, the 'world's champion,' was intending to leave Australia for America on Jan. 29, and would not visit New Zealand.

The Secretary stated that he had written s,everal times to Zimmerman's' manager, with a view to secxu-e the champion's appearance at the club's race meeting, but had been unable to get a definite answer. After a lengthy discussion, it was unanimously resolved that the club should hold a race meeting in the beginning of February, in accordance with Mr Wilson's offer to secure the appearance of the riders mentioned. The Secretary was instructed to send a cable to Mr Wilson, embodying the resolution, and suggesting a suitable date for holding the meeting. The names of Messrs W. G. Williams, F. Pannell and F. Taylor were added to the committee, and the committee was instructed to draw up a programme and make preliminary arrangements for the race meeting. Ten new members were elected. At the conclusion of the meeting the captain, on behalf of the club, presented to Mr W. G. Williams a handsome dressing case, as a memento of the members' appreciation of his past services to the club. Mr Williams suitably acknowledged the gift. A vote of thanks to the Editor of the Wheelman for a contribution/and to the Chairman for presiding closed the meeting
